Bob Scopatz has a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Columbia University. While working on his dissertation, he worked for the New York City Department of Transportation as a data analyst and later as the Director and Acting
Assistant Commissioner of the Transportation Information Section. Since leaving New York, Bob has worked as a consultant throughout the US.
He is a Senior Transportation Analyst
with the Safety practice of
VHB, Inc. based in Raleigh, NC. Bob, his wife Dana and two children live in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
Dr. Scopatz is a researcher focused on improving safety behavior and advising States and the federal government on data quality improvement. His published work includes studies of pedestrian and driver distraction,
teen driver safety, commercial vehicle safety, and performance management.
