Captain Shane Bates earned his B.S. in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 1996 and is currently finishing his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville.In November 2014 he graduated Valedictorian of the Southern Police Institute 132nd Administrative Officers Course held at the University of Louisville. Capt. Bates began his career with the Kentucky State Police in 1998.  Previous positions held within Kentucky State Police include Trooper, Narcotics Detective, and Special Investigations Detective. As a Sergeant he worked in the Records Branch and Electronic Crime Branch for KSP.  As a Lieutenant, he was named Commander of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigating online child exploitation. In his current position as Captain he is assigned as the Commander of the Criminal Identification and Records Branch.  In that role he is responsible for 15 sections involving state-wide crime and collision reporting, AFIS, CCDW permits, Sex Offender registry, and the criminal history repository. These sections manage data submission from every agency in the state of Kentucky.
